Role Overview

We are looking for a resilient and compassionate Key Stage 2 Teacher to join a specialist SEMH School in Blackburn. This is a unique opportunity to work within a highly supportive environment where class sizes are capped at 5 pupils, allowing for a truly nurturing and individualised approach to education. You will be teaching students who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, requiring a teacher who can balance academic progress with therapeutic support.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will lead a small class of up to 5 pupils, delivering a creative and engaging KS2 curriculum that is adapted to meet the diverse needs of each learner. You will be responsible for creating a safe and structured classroom environment where pupils feel empowered to overcome barriers to learning. A significant part of this role involves de-escalation, behaviour management, and emotional coaching, working closely with on-site Teaching Assistants and therapy teams to implement individual EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) goals.

Requirements

Applicants must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have a proven track record of teaching within Key Stage 2. Experience working in an SEMH or SEN setting is highly desirable, as you must possess robust behaviour management skills and a deep understanding of trauma-informed practice. You must be able to commit to the fixed hours of 8:30 am to 3:30 pm and be looking for a long-term career move, as this role is a temp-to-perm position. An enhanced DBS on the update service is essential for an immediate start.

Benefits and Culture

This Blackburn-based school is renowned for its commitment to staff well being and professional development. Working with micro-class sizes of 5 pupils ensures you can focus on quality teaching without the pressures of a large mainstream classroom. This temp-to-perm route offers you the chance to ensure the school is the right fit for you before committing to a permanent contract, providing job security and a clear pathway for career progression within Special Educational Needs.
