Job Description
Pastoral Lead & Cover Supervisor | Specialist SEMH & ASC School
Empower, Support, and Inspire. Join Our Resilience-Driven Team in Accrington.
Are you someone who can turn a challenging morning into a breakthrough afternoon? We are looking for a versatile and dedicated Cover Supervisor & Pastoral Support Lead to join our specialist school in Accrington.
This is a full-time (5 days a week) role designed for someone who is as comfortable managing a classroom as they are providing 1-on-1 emotional support. You will be working with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC), helping them find stability and success in their education.
The Role: A Balance of Academic & Emotional Support
In this dual-purpose role, you will be the "glue" that holds the classroom experience together. Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Confident Cover: Stepping into the classroom to deliver pre-set lessons across the curriculum, maintaining a calm and purposeful atmosphere for the students.
- Pastoral Mentoring: Working closely with vulnerable pupils to build their self-esteem, manage their anxiety, and develop coping mechanisms for the classroom.
- Behaviour for Learning: Using a "nurture first" approach to de-escalate situations and support students in returning to a state of regulation.
- Progress Tracking: Collaborating with Teachers and the SENCO to monitor student wellbeing and contribute to EHCP reviews.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experienced: You have a background in SEN, youth work, or a similar pastoral role and aren't fazed by complex behaviours.
- Relatable: You have the "soft skills" required to connect with teenagers who may have felt alienated by traditional schooling.
- Proactive: You don't wait to be told what to do; you can spot a student in need of a "brain break" or extra support before a situation escalates.
- Committed: You understand that for our pupils, consistency is everything. We need a reliable professional available 5 days a week.
Why Choose Our School?
"We believe that every child in Accrington deserves a champion. Our staff are more than just educators; they are mentors and advocates for the most resilient young people in the county."
- Competitive Daily Rates: Paid to scale based on your experience.
- Specialist Training: Fully funded CPD, including Team-Teach and advanced ASC/SEMH awareness workshops.
- Team Wellbeing: A highly supportive environment with regular debriefs and a focus on staff mental health.
- Impactful Work: The chance to see the direct results of your support as students grow in confidence and emotional literacy.
