Job Description

Location: Barnoldswick, Lancashire (BB18 area) Salary: Up to £31,850 per annum (Dependent on experience) Contract Type: Full-Time, Temp-to-Perm Start Date: June 2026 / September 2026

Are you a teacher who believes the best classroom often has no walls? We are seeking an Outdoor Education Teacher to join a specialised Alternative Provision in Barnoldswick.

This role is open to both Qualified Teachers (QTS/QTLS) and Unqualified Teachers who possess significant experience in outdoor leadership, bushcraft, or sports coaching. You will spend your time split between classroom-based academic support and leading high-impact outdoor learning sessions.

The Role: Beyond the Desk

Our students have often struggled in mainstream education. Your job is to re-engage them through a curriculum that balances core learning with physical challenge:

  • Dual-Environment Teaching: Lead indoor classroom sessions and transition seamlessly to outdoor activities like hiking, team-building, and forest school.

  • Curriculum Integration: Use the natural environment to teach practical applications of Maths, Science, and Geography.

  • Behavioural Mentoring: Utilise the outdoors to teach emotional regulation, resilience, and problem-solving to students with SEMH needs.

  • Safety & Compliance: Take full responsibility for risk assessments and the safety of students during off-site excursions.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Qualified or Unqualified: We value experience and character as much as certifications. If you can lead a group of 11-16 year olds through a forest or a classroom, we want to talk.

  • Outdoor Expertise: Qualifications in Mountain Leadership, Forest School (Level 3), or specialised outdoor instructing are highly desirable.

  • Resilience: You must be comfortable working with challenging behaviours and have a "never give up" attitude toward student progress.

  • Barnoldswick Focus: A desire to work with local youth and contribute to the community in the Pendle area.

Why Apply?

  • Competitive Salary: Up to £31,850, reflecting the specialist nature of the role.

  • Work-Life Balance: Standard school hours with the benefits of active, outdoor work.

  • Temp-to-Perm: Secure a permanent future in a growing Alternative Provision that values its staff.

  • Impact: Directly see the transformation in students as they gain confidence through outdoor achievement.
