Cover Supervisor (Secondary Schools)
Location: Durham, County Durham
Job Type: Full-Time / Part-Time / Flexible
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: £105-£130 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)
About the Role
We are currently recruiting confident, adaptable, and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to support a range of secondary schools across Durham from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, experienced support staff, or individuals looking to gain valuable classroom experience within a secondary school setting. As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes during teacher absences, ensuring students remain engaged with their learning and complete the work set.
Working across Key Stages 3 and 4, you will play a vital role in maintaining a positive, productive, and well-managed learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise classes in the absence of the regular classroom teacher
- Deliver pre-planned lessons and ensure students remain on task
- Manage classroom behaviour in accordance with school policies
- Provide guidance and support to students where required
- Maintain a safe and positive learning environment
- Record attendance and report any behavioural or safeguarding concerns
- Liaise with teaching and support staff as necessary
Person Specification
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence managing groups of secondary-aged students
- Excellent organisational and classroom management skills
- A proactive, flexible, and professional approach
- A genuine interest in education and supporting young people
- Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential
