Job Description
Location: Barnoldswick (Barlick), Lancashire
Salary: Up to £31,850 per annum (Depending on experience)
Job Type: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent
Start Date: September 2026
Qualifications Required: None - full training provided. Armed Forces background highly valued.
Are you looking to transition your military experience into a rewarding role that combines classroom teaching with the great outdoors?
We are seeking a resilient, structured, and inspiring individual to join our Alternative Provision (AP) in Barnoldswick, Lancashire. This role is perfect for an ex-military professional or veteran who wants to make a real-world impact on young people who have struggled in mainstream education.
You do not need a teaching qualification to apply. We value leadership, discipline, life experience, and a passion for mentoring above pieces of paper.
The Role
In this role, you won't be managing a chaotic classroom of thirty students. Instead, you will be working in small groups and 1:1 settings with secondary-aged pupils who need a different approach to learning.
You will blend core classroom education with outdoor learning, utilising the natural environment around Lancashire to teach teamwork, resilience, and life skills.
Classroom & Beyond: Deliver engaging, practical lessons inside the classroom, and seamlessly transition to outdoor projects, sports, or bushcraft.
Mentoring: Act as a strong role model, helping students build confidence, structure, and emotional regulation.
Behaviour Management: Use your calm-under-pressure military mindset to de-escalate challenging situations and support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
What We Are Looking For
Army / Armed Forces Background: Ideally suited for individuals looking to transition into education or youth instructing.
An Outdoor Enthusiast: Someone who thrives in nature and can use the outdoors as a tool to engage disengaged youth.
Resilience & Authority: A natural leader who is firm but fair, patient, and highly adaptable.
No QTS Required: You do not need to be a qualified teacher. Substantial life experience, trade skills, or military instructional experience is exactly what our students need.
What We Offer
Excellent Pay: Up to £31,860 per annum.
Temp-to-Perm Pathway: A stable, long-term career transition with a clear route to a permanent contract.
Comprehensive Training: Full support, safeguarding training, and trauma-informed behavioural mentor ship provided.
The Best of Both Worlds: Spend your weeks splitting time between active outdoor education and structured classroom mentoring.
