Job Description

Location: Blackpool, Lancashire

Salary: Up to £31,850 per annum (Depending on experience)

Job Type: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent

Start Date: September 2026

Qualifications Required: None - full training provided. Armed Forces background highly valued.

Support: Dedicated Teaching Assistant (TA) paired with you for every student.

Looking to transition your military skills into a role with true 1:1 impact? Teach both in the classroom and the great outdoors-fully supported by a dedicated TA.

We are recruiting a resilient, structured, and active individual to work as a 1:1 Alternative Provision (AP) Instructor in Blackpool. This unique role is designed specifically for ex-military personnel, veterans, or outdoor instructors who want to mentor vulnerable youth who have been excluded from or struggled in mainstream school environments.

You do not need a teaching qualification to apply. We prioritise leadership, emotional intelligence, discipline, and life experience over formal teaching degrees.

The Role

Unlike a standard classroom role, you will be teaching strictly on a 1:1 basis with an individual secondary-aged student. You are never isolated-you will work alongside an experienced Teaching Assistant (TA) to provide a safe, structured, and engaging learning dynamic.

Your day will actively bridge the gap between structured classroom tutoring and active, outdoor education across Blackpool and the wider Lancashire coastline.

  • Supported 1:1 Delivery: Deliver practical, tailored lessons to one student at a time, backed up by a dedicated TA who assists with student focus and well-being.

  • Active Outdoor Learning: Use the local outdoors, beach environments, sports, and practical tasks to build your student's confidence, teamwork, and life skills.

  • Mentoring & Discipline: Bring your military structure to help your student develop routine, emotional regulation, and a positive mindset.

  • Calm Under Pressure: De-escalate challenging behaviours effectively using a trauma-informed, firm-but-fair approach.

What We Are Looking For

  • Armed Forces / Military Background: Perfect for individuals looking to apply their instructional, navigational, or leadership backgrounds to youth mentorship.

  • Passion for the Outdoors: Someone who wants an active role and believes that nature is one of the best classrooms for disengaged youth.

  • Team Players: Ability to collaborate seamlessly with your assigned 1:1 Teaching Assistant to create a cohesive support system.

  • No QTS Required: Unqualified instructors with trades, sports coaching, or military instruction experience are highly encouraged to apply.

What We Offer

  • Excellent Pay Structure: Up to £31,850 per annum.

  • Temp-to-Perm Pathway: A secure, long-term career transition with a clear route to a permanent contract.

  • Full Support Network: You are never left alone with a student; you always have dedicated TA support and full onboarding/safeguarding training.

  • Dynamic Work Environment: Say goodbye to being stuck behind a desk all day.
