Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive academy in Sheffield from September 2026. This is a long-term temporary position, offering the opportunity to make a real difference in the classroom while gaining valuable experience in a supportive school environment.

The Role

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will help create an engaging learning environment, provide one-to-one and small group support, and assist students with a range of learning needs to help them reach their academic and personal goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group interventions to students.
  • Assist students with additional learning needs, including SEND where required.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage student engagement.
  • Help prepare classroom resources and learning materials.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Supervise students during lessons, break times or educational activities as required.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with secondary-aged students is desirable.
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Youth Worker, Tutor or similar role is advantageous.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people's education and wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, resilience and a positive attitude.
  • The ability to build strong relationships with students and staff.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Tradewind Recruitment.
  • The legal right to work in the UK.
