Attendance Officer - Secondary School - Brent - September 2026 Start - Full-Time

Tradewind Recruitment is working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Brent seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and organised Attendance Officer from September 2026. This full-time role is ideal for someone with experience in school administration, pastoral support, attendance monitoring, or working with young people who is passionate about improving student outcomes.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated pastoral team, support attendance improvement strategies, and play a key role in ensuring students attend school regularly, remain engaged with learning, and receive the support they need to succeed.

The Role

As an Attendance Officer, you will work closely with the pastoral team, Heads of Year, senior leaders, students, and families to monitor attendance, identify concerns, and provide effective support to improve attendance and punctuality.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality across the school.
  • Following up unexplained absences and maintaining accurate attendance records.
  • Identifying attendance trends, persistent absence, and students requiring additional support.
  • Contacting parents/carers regarding attendance concerns and working collaboratively to improve attendance.
  • Building positive relationships with students and supporting those experiencing barriers to attending school.
  • Working closely with pastoral staff, safeguarding teams, and external agencies where required.
  • Supporting attendance meetings, intervention plans, and reintegration programmes.
  • Maintaining accurate records using school systems such as SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom.
  • Producing attendance reports and sharing updates with relevant staff.
  • Supporting wider pastoral and administrative duties to promote student wellbeing.
  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with safeguarding, confidentiality, and GDPR requirements.

Who the School is Looking For

You should have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, within a secondary school setting.
  • Experience using MIS systems such as SIMS, Arbor or Bromcom.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence communicating professionally with parents/carers, students, and staff.
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage sensitive information confidentially.
  • A proactive, supportive, and solution-focused approach.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students and encourage engagement.
  • Good IT skills, including confidence using databases and school management systems.
  • Knowledge of attendance procedures, safeguarding, or pastoral support is desirable.
