Experienced SEND Tutor - KS3 & KS4
Location: Sheffield & Surrounding Areas
Salary: £25-£35 per hour (depending on experience)
Job Type: Full-Time or Part-Time (Term Time Only)
Start Date: September 2026
Are you an experienced Tutor looking for a rewarding opportunity where you can make a genuine difference to the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs?
Tradewind Recruitment are working with specialist education providers and local authorities to recruit experienced SEND Tutors to provide 1:1 tuition for KS3 and KS4 pupils who are currently unable to access mainstream education.
This role is ideal for an experienced tutor who enjoys building strong relationships, adapting learning to individual needs and helping young people regain confidence in education.
The role is predominantly delivered outside of a traditional school setting, supporting pupils within their homes, community venues or other agreed learning environments. You will provide consistent, personalised support to pupils who benefit from having a trusted adult who can help them re-engage with learning.
Please note: Due to travelling between tutoring locations, a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.
The Role
As an experienced SEND Tutor, you will provide high-quality 1:1 tutoring sessions tailored to each pupil's individual abilities, interests and learning needs.
Many of the pupils you will support have experienced barriers to education and may require a patient, flexible and nurturing approach. Building trust and creating a positive learning environment will be central to helping pupils make progress.
You may support pupils with a range of needs, including:
- Autism (ASC)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- ADHD
- Learning difficulties
- Anxiety and emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA)
- Communication and interaction needs
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and personalised 1:1 tutoring sessions across KS3 and KS4.
- Plan and adapt lessons to meet individual pupil needs.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and families.
- Support pupils to rebuild confidence and develop positive attitudes towards learning.
- Provide a calm, structured and encouraging learning environment.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to relevant professionals.
- Work independently while maintaining regular communication with the wider support team.
- Travel to tutoring locations across Sheffield and surrounding areas.
About You
We are looking for an experienced tutor who has:
- Previous experience delivering tuition to children or young people.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND, additional needs or barriers to learning.
- A patient, adaptable and nurturing approach.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to motivate and engage reluctant learners.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own timetable.
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
Experience working with SEND pupils, alternative provision, schools or vulnerable young people would be highly advantageous.

Pay Information (£25-£35 per hour)
Our hourly rates are determined individually and reflect:
- Your previous tutoring experience.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND or complex needs.
- Qualifications and specialist skills.
- The complexity of the pupil's needs.
- The requirements and funding available for each tutoring package.
Tutors with extensive SEND experience, strong subject knowledge and a proven ability to engage pupils who have barriers to education are more likely to be considered towards the higher end of the pay scale.
