Graduate Teaching Assistant - Secondary School
Are you a graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in a secondary school before pursuing a career in teaching or another education-based profession? An established school in Ealing is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join its team from September 2026.
This is a full-time, Monday to Friday position, with working hours of approximately 8:15am to 4:00pm. You will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff, gaining valuable insight into classroom practice while helping pupils make progress academically and personally.
The school has a positive and inclusive culture, with high expectations for both students and staff. It offers graduates the opportunity to develop their confidence, communication skills and understanding of working with young people within a busy secondary school environment.
The Opportunity
This role would be particularly well suited to a graduate considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, youth work or other education-related professions.
You will spend your day supporting pupils in lessons, helping them stay engaged with their learning and providing additional encouragement where required. You will also have the opportunity to observe experienced teachers and gain a broader understanding of life within a secondary school.
Key Responsibilities
Provide support to pupils during lessons and learning activities.
Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce understanding.
Encourage pupils to participate positively and develop confidence.
Help students become more independent in their learning.
Support teachers with classroom activities and preparation of resources.
Contribute to maintaining a calm, focused and positive classroom environment.
Develop professional relationships with pupils and members of staff.
Provide appropriate support with behaviour in accordance with school procedures.
Take an active interest in the wider school community.
What We're Looking For
A degree from a Russell Group university.
Genuine enthusiasm for working with children and young people.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
A positive, dependable and professional attitude.
The confidence to build rapport with pupils and staff.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
Right to work in the UK.
