Science Technician - Practical Science Support

Would you like to use your scientific knowledge in a dynamic secondary school environment? An established school in Westminster is looking for a capable and enthusiastic Science Technician to become part of its science team from September 2026.

This full-time opportunity is Monday to Friday and is initially scheduled for approximately one term, with the possibility of a longer-term extension. The successful applicant will help teachers deliver practical science lessons by ensuring equipment, materials and laboratories are fully prepared.

The role is ideal for someone who takes pride in being organised and understands the importance of precision, safety and preparation when working with scientific equipment.

About the Position

You will provide essential technical assistance to the science department and help turn lesson plans into safe and engaging practical activities.

Working across the science curriculum, you will prepare resources for Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons, maintain equipment and support the smooth running of laboratories.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Prepare practical materials and equipment according to lesson requirements.

  • Support teachers with demonstrations and experiments.

  • Set up laboratory spaces before practical lessons.

  • Clean and store apparatus appropriately after use.

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment and consumable resources.

  • Monitor supplies and highlight when additional stock is required.

  • Carry out basic checks on equipment and report faults.

  • Maintain high standards of laboratory cleanliness and organisation.

  • Follow all relevant safety, COSHH and school procedures.

  • Work effectively with teaching staff to meet the needs of the department.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant science subject or has comparable technical experience.

  • Familiar with laboratory equipment and practical procedures.

  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.

  • Safety-conscious and able to follow established procedures.

  • Comfortable managing several tasks within a busy department.

  • A confident communicator who works well with teaching staff.

  • Reliable, professional and able to use initiative.

  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willing to obtain one.

  • Eligible to work in the UK.
