Cover Supervisor - Secondary Academy

About the Role

Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking a reliable, confident and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join a welcoming Secondary Academy in Rotherham on an ongoing basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and is looking to gain further experience within a secondary school environment. You will play an important role in maintaining continuity of learning by supervising students during lessons in the absence of their usual teacher.

The successful candidate will be working across a range of subjects, following lesson plans and ensuring students remain engaged, focused and well behaved.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise classes of secondary-aged students in the absence of their regular teacher.
• Deliver pre-prepared lesson plans and ensure students complete the work provided.
• Maintain a positive, calm and purposeful classroom environment.
• Manage student behaviour in line with the academy's behaviour policies.
• Support students with their learning where appropriate.
• Take registers and accurately record attendance.
• Ensure students remain on task and complete the work set.
• Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding lesson progress and any behavioural or learning issues.
• Follow school safeguarding, health and safety and other relevant policies.
• Build positive and professional relationships with students and staff.
• Be flexible and willing to cover lessons across different subjects and year groups.

Requirements

The successful Cover Supervisor will ideally have:

• Experience working with children or young people, preferably within a secondary school setting.
• A confident and professional approach to classroom management.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to build positive relationships with students.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to follow lesson plans effectively.
• The confidence to supervise groups of students independently.
• A calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour management.
• The ability to adapt to different subjects, classes and situations.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.

Teaching qualifications are not essential for this role, making it an excellent opportunity for graduates, experienced Teaching Assistants, Cover Supervisors or individuals looking to develop a career within education.
