Job Description

A dedicated Alternative Provision (AP) based in Clitheroe (BB7) is seeking a caring, reliable Passenger Escort / Transport Assistant to join their team on a full-time, 40-hour weekly basis.

Working alongside the minibus driver, you will be responsible for the safety, wellbeing, and emotional reassurance of students during daily journeys between home, school, vocational sites, and community visits across the Ribble Valley and East Lancashire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support students during transit, ensuring seatbelts and safety restraints are securely fastened before travel.

  • Foster a calm, positive, and reassuring atmosphere on board to help reduce travel anxiety.

  • Assist pupils entering and exiting the vehicle safely at all collection and drop-off points.

  • Support basic de-escalation and positive behaviour management, addressing any peer conflicts or dysregulation calmly.

  • Act as a reliable point of contact between parents/carers and school pastoral teams, reporting handovers, attendance notes, or wellbeing concerns promptly.

  • Assist in vehicle checks (checking for left property, ensuring cleanliness).

Candidate Requirements

  • DBS Check (Essential): Must hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the DBS Update Service (or be willing to undergo an immediate fast-track check).

  • Experience: Experience working with children or young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism (ASC), or additional learning needs is highly desirable (Care, SEN, Youth Work, or TA backgrounds welcome).

  • Interpersonal Skills: High patience, strong communication, and a calm, non-confrontational approach.

  • Reliability: Punctual and dependable with an understanding of strict route schedules.

  • Location: Based in or easily commutable to Clitheroe (BB7).

  • Note: A driving licence is not required for this role.
