Functional Skills Maths Tutor - New Alternative Provision

Location: Towcester, Northamptonshire
Start Date: October 2026
Contract: Temp-to-Perm
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Recruitment: Booked via Tradewind Recruitment

Are you a passionate Maths teacher or Functional Skills Tutor looking for an opportunity to make a real difference to young people who may have struggled within mainstream education?

A growing Alternative Provision setting in Towcester is opening in October 2026, and they are looking for an experienced Functional Skills Maths Tutor to join their new team. The organisation already operates two established and successful sites and is now expanding its provision into Towcester.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the setting during its next stage of development and play an important role in helping young people re-engage with education, develop their confidence and achieve meaningful qualifications.

The Role

As a Functional Skills Maths Tutor, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and accessible Maths sessions to students who may have previously found traditional education challenging. You will support students to develop their numeracy skills and work towards appropriate Functional Skills qualifications, adapting your teaching to meet individual abilities and needs.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience teaching Functional Skills Maths, GCSE Maths or Maths within an Alternative Provision, SEN or similar setting.

You will need to be confident adapting lessons, breaking concepts down into manageable steps and building positive relationships with students. Experience supporting young people with SEN, SEMH, challenging behaviour or gaps in education would be highly desirable.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience teaching Functional Skills Maths, GCSE Maths or a similar Maths curriculum.
  • A recognised teaching qualification is desirable, although relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Experience working with young people who have SEN, SEMH, behavioural needs or barriers to learning.
  • A patient, engaging and flexible approach to teaching.
  • The ability to build positive relationships and motivate students who may have disengaged from education.

Excellent Development Opportunities

The setting is committed to investing in its staff and offers opportunities for continued professional development and progression.

As the organisation continues to expand, there will be opportunities for staff to develop their responsibilities and progress their careers within Alternative Provision.

Important Information

Applicants must have the right to work and remain in the UK. Unfortunately, this setting is unable to offer sponsorship.

The position is offered on a temp-to-perm basis, providing the opportunity to secure a permanent position following a successful temporary period.

If you're an experienced Maths educator who wants to help young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve qualifications that can genuinely support their future, we'd love to hear from you.

This vacancy is being booked via Tradewind Recruitment.
