Academic Mentor - Maths

Location: Newham, East London
Start Date: Week commencing 28th September 2026
Contract: Until August 2027
Working Hours: 8:30am - 4:00pm, Monday to Friday
Contract Type: Full-time, term time only
Salary: Negotiable!

We are currently recruiting for an Academic Mentor in Maths to join a secondary school in Newham.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong Maths background who is passionate about supporting students and helping them achieve their academic potential.

The Role

As a Maths Academic Mentor, you will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping students improve their mathematical knowledge, confidence and exam skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group Maths support
  • Support students with GCSE Maths
  • Identify learning gaps and provide targeted intervention
  • Support students with exam preparation and revision
  • Monitor and record student progress
  • Work closely with Maths teachers and pastoral staff
  • Deliver Year 11 after-school intervention sessions
  • Support the school's Homework Club
  • Assist with Maths trips and competitions
  • Support morning Maths tutor groups

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong academic background in Maths
  • Experience supporting or tutoring secondary school students
  • Good knowledge of GCSE Maths
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students
  • A passion for helping young people make progress
