Academic Mentor - Science

Location: Newham, East London
Start Date: Week commencing 28th September 2026
Contract: Until August 2027
Working Hours: 8:30am - 4:00pm, Monday to Friday
Contract Type: Full-time, term time only
Salary: Negotiable!

We are currently recruiting for an Academic Mentor in Science to join a secondary school in Newham.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong Science background who is passionate about supporting students and helping them achieve their academic potential.

The Role

As a Science Academic Mentor, you will provide 1:1 and small-group support across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, helping students improve their scientific knowledge, confidence and exam skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group Science support

  • Support students with GCSE Science

  • Support across Biology, Chemistry and Physics

  • Identify learning gaps and areas for development

  • Deliver targeted academic interventions

  • Support exam preparation, revision and past-paper practice

  • Monitor and record student progress

  • Develop students' confidence and independent learning skills

  • Work closely with Science teachers and pastoral staff

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong academic background in Science

  • Good knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and Physics

  • Experience supporting or tutoring secondary school students

  • Knowledge of GCSE Science

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • The ability to build positive relationships with students

  • A passion for helping young people make progress
