Learning Support Assistant - KS1

SANZA Teaching Agency is recruiting a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a highly regarded independent primary school in Barnet. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for the remainder of the academic year, supporting a Key Stage 1 pupil on a 1:1 basis.
This rewarding role would suit an experienced Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant or SEND Support Worker who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve success in the classroom.
Working closely with teaching staff and the wider support team, you will provide tailored support that enables the pupil to access learning, develop confidence and make positive progress both academically and socially.

Role Summary

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day, helping a Key Stage 1 pupil to access learning opportunities, develop positive learning behaviours and build confidence within the school environment.
You will work closely with class teachers and support staff to deliver tailored strategies that promote engagement, independence and academic progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout lessons and wider school activities.
  • Support the pupil's engagement, attention and participation in learning.
  • Help develop confidence, independence and positive social interactions.
  • Adapt learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher.
  • Use supportive strategies to encourage participation and learning progress.
  • Build a positive and professional relationship with the pupil and their family where appropriate.
  • Monitor progress and communicate observations with teaching staff.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Support positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing across the school day.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other support professionals.

Candidate Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates should:
  • Have experience supporting children within a primary school, SEND or educational setting.
  • Be confident providing 1:1 support to pupils with additional learning or behavioural needs.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Be patient, resilient and committed to supporting pupil development.
  • Be able to adapt approaches to meet individual learning needs.
  • Work effectively as part of a wider school team.
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting children to achieve their potential.
Experience supporting pupils with additional needs, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), attention and concentration difficulties, or behavioural support requirements would be advantageous.

Pay and Progression

This role offers a daily rate of £109 per day.
Candidates who possess relevant SEND experience, previous 1:1 support experience, additional training in behaviour support, SEMH, autism or inclusion, and a proven track record of supporting pupil progress may be considered for opportunities available at the highest advertised pay rate.
Pay will be determined based on the experience, skills and responsibilities required for the position.

Required Vetting

All successful applicants will be required to complete standard vetting procedures, including:
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Professional references covering recent employment and/or education history.

  • Confirmation of the right to work in the UK.
