Tradewind Recruitment is currently looking to speak with experienced Design Technology and Art Technicians who are seeking day-to-day and long-term opportunities across Bristol from September 2026.

We are building our team of education professionals for the new academic year and are keen to hear from candidates with practical, technical or workshop experience who can support secondary school departments.

The Opportunity

As a DT & Art Technician, you will support the smooth running of practical secondary school departments.

You may prepare materials and equipment for lessons, maintain tools and machinery, manage stock and resources, and support teachers and pupils during practical activities.

For DT roles, experience with materials such as wood, metal, plastics or textiles, alongside workshop tools and machinery, would be highly beneficial. Experience with CAD/CAM equipment is also desirable.

For Art roles, practical experience with art materials, processes and specialist equipment would be advantageous.

Your Responsibilities

  • Preparing materials, equipment and resources for practical lessons.
  • Maintaining and organising tools, machinery and specialist equipment.
  • Supporting teachers and students during practical activities.
  • Monitoring stock and ensuring resources are available when required.
  • Maintaining clean, safe and organised workshops, classrooms and preparation areas.
  • Following health & safety, COSHH and school procedures.
  • Carrying out basic maintenance and reporting faulty or unsafe equipment.
  • Supporting demonstrations and practical techniques where appropriate.
  • Helping with displays, exhibitions and student projects where required.
  • Working independently while contributing positively to the wider department.
