SEND Teaching Assistant - Specialist School

Location: Barnet, North London
Salary: £95-£115 per day PAYE
Contract: Full-time, Long-term / Supply
Start Date: ASAP

Tradewind Recruitment are currently looking for experienced and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistants to join a friendly and supportive specialist school in Barnet.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs and wants to work in a specialist environment where no two days are the same.

The school supports pupils with a range of complex additional needs, including Autism, SLD, MLD and communication difficulties, and is looking for TAs who can provide consistent, patient and nurturing support.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to help pupils access learning, develop their communication and build independence.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support both inside and outside of the classroom
  • Supporting pupils with Autism and other complex SEND
  • Helping pupils develop communication, social and independence skills
  • Supporting sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing
  • Assisting with the implementation of individual EHCP targets
  • Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour using positive strategies
  • Supporting pupils with their daily routines and, where required, personal care
  • Using communication approaches such as PECS, Makaton or AAC
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals
  • Creating a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced working with children or young people with SEND
  • Confident supporting pupils with Autism and complex needs
  • Patient, calm and empathetic
  • Comfortable supporting pupils with communication difficulties
  • Able to build strong relationships with pupils and staff
  • Proactive and willing to get involved
  • Passionate about helping young people develop and achieve their potential

Previous experience within a specialist SEND school, ARP, SEN provision, care setting or similar environment would be highly beneficial.

Relevant qualifications such as CACHE, Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching & Learning, Autism qualifications or Team Teach are desirable but not essential where you have strong relevant experience.
