SEN Teaching Assistant
Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Wigan. This is a full-time, long-term role working 1:1 with a Year 5 pupil with Autism and ADHD, starting as soon as possible and continuing for the remainder of the academic year.
The successful candidate will have previous experience supporting children with additional needs and, importantly, experience working with children who experience mutism. You will need to be patient, nurturing and able to build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil, whilst providing consistent support throughout the school day.
The Role:
Work 1:1 with a Year 5 pupil with Autism and ADHD.
Support the pupil with their learning, engagement and participation in lessons.
Use appropriate strategies to support a child who experiences mutism.
Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil.
Provide consistent emotional and pastoral support.
Encourage independence and confidence within the classroom and wider school environment.
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to ensure the pupil's individual needs are met.
Support the implementation of any relevant EHCP strategies and individual support plans.
Help create a calm, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

The ideal candidate will:
Have previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, particularly within a primary school setting.
Have experience supporting children with Autism and ADHD.
Have experience working with children who experience mutism - this is essential.
Be patient, calm, empathetic and consistent in their approach.
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Be able to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
Have a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
Be confident working on a 1:1 basis whilst also contributing positively to the wider classroom environment.
Requirements:
Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional references.
CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible, and any employment breaks must be explained.
Legal right to work in the UK.
Experience supporting children with SEN.
Previous experience working with mutism is essential.
