SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with a strong background supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH and behavioural needs? Tradewind Recruitment is currently looking for a proactive and resilient SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a school in North East Northamptonshire, supporting secondary-aged students with a range of additional needs and behavioural challenges.

This is a full-time opportunity starting as soon as possible for the right candidate. The successful Teaching Assistant will play an important role in helping students engage with education, manage their behaviour and overcome barriers to learning.

You will need to be very proactive, confident and adaptable, with the ability to recognise when a student may need additional support and respond appropriately. Building positive relationships will be key, as you will be working closely with students who may find the school environment challenging.

The role will involve:

• Supporting secondary-aged students with SEN and SEMH needs
• Providing classroom and targeted 1:1 support where required
• Supporting students who present with challenging or dysregulated behaviour
• Building positive, trusting relationships with students
• Encouraging engagement with learning and helping students overcome barriers
• Promoting positive behaviour and helping students develop appropriate strategies
• Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team
• Supporting students both academically and emotionally throughout the school day
• Being proactive in identifying when students require additional support
• Maintaining a calm, consistent and positive approach

We're looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH and/or behavioural needs
• Is confident supporting secondary-aged students
• Is proactive, resilient and able to use their initiative
• Has strong behaviour management skills
• Can remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations
• Is confident building relationships with students who may be reluctant to engage
• Has a patient, positive and nurturing approach
• Can work effectively as part of a wider school team
• Is reliable and committed to providing consistent support

This would suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, SEMH Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Learning Support Assistant or Youth Worker with relevant experience.
