Assistant IT Manager - Education / Schools

£34,500 - £36,500 | Permanent | Full-Time | Multi-Site

Tradewind Recruitment are working with a growing Multi-Academy Trust to appoint an Assistant IT Manager to support its technology services across six primary schools.

This position would suit an experienced IT Technician, Senior IT Technician or IT Support professional who has already gained hands-on experience working within schools and is now looking to move into a role with greater responsibility.

You will work closely with the Trust IT Manager, helping to deliver a consistent and effective IT service across the organisation. Alongside technical troubleshooting, you will have responsibility for infrastructure, systems, projects and supporting members of the IT team.

A key part of the position will be the ongoing support of Bromcom MIS, so experience with Bromcom would be advantageous, although training may be available for the right candidate with strong school-based IT experience.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Deliver day-to-day IT support across the Trust's primary schools.
• Maintain and troubleshoot Windows Server and Active Directory.
• Support Microsoft 365 services and user accounts.
• Monitor and resolve network and connectivity problems.
• Support wired and wireless network infrastructure.
• Assist with Bromcom administration and user support.
• Investigate and resolve technical problems efficiently.
• Assist with the implementation of new technology and IT projects.
• Support system upgrades and hardware/software rollouts.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to school-based IT staff.
• Contribute to maintaining secure and dependable IT systems.
• Work collaboratively with school leaders, staff and the wider IT team.

Essential Experience

Candidates must have previous experience working in a school or education setting in an IT capacity. This is a mandatory requirement.

In addition, the successful candidate will ideally have experience with:

• Windows Server.
• Active Directory.
• Microsoft 365.
• Network infrastructure and TCP/IP.
• Switches, Wi-Fi and connectivity troubleshooting.
• IT hardware and software support.
• Education-based MIS platforms.
• Bromcom MIS - desirable.
• Leading, mentoring or supporting junior IT staff.

You will need excellent problem-solving skills, a professional approach and the ability to manage competing demands while supporting users across multiple locations.

A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential due to the multi-site nature of the role.

Location & Travel

The Trust operates across Bolton, Bury and Halifax.

Regular travel between school sites will be required. However, consideration can be given to candidates who are able to cover the Bolton and Bury schools in person, with the Halifax sites supported remotely.
