SEMH English Teacher - November Start

Tradewind Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced and resilient English Teacher to join an Alternative Provision setting in Hemel Hempstead from 2 November 2026.

This is an opportunity for a teacher who wants to make a genuine difference to pupils who have struggled within mainstream education. The setting works with small groups, typically 2-8 pupils, allowing for highly personalised teaching and strong relationships to be built.

While an English specialist would be ideal, the school is also open to strong Primary, Humanities or other experienced teachers with the confidence and enthusiasm to deliver English across KS3 and KS4.

The Role

  • Full-time English teaching from 2 November 2026
  • Teaching KS3 and KS4 English
  • Small class groups of around 2-8 pupils
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and additional needs
  • Planning and delivering engaging, accessible lessons
  • Building positive relationships and maintaining clear boundaries
  • Working as part of a supportive and close-knit team
  • 1 term minimum, with potential for the role to become permanent

The Ideal Candidate

  • QTS preferred, although relevant unqualified teaching experience will be considered
  • At least 1 year of UK school-based experience
  • Confident teaching or supporting English at KS3/KS4 level
  • Strong behaviour management and classroom presence
  • Calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • Resilient, adaptable and well organised
  • Experience with SEMH pupils is advantageous
  • Passionate about helping pupils re-engage with education
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willing to apply
  • Right to work in the UK
