Job Description

Are you an empathetic, firm, and proactive pastoral practitioner looking to make a lasting difference in Blackpool?

We are recruiting a dedicated Pastoral Support Worker / Pastoral Manager to join a caring, community-focused secondary school in Blackpool.

In this vital role, you will be the go-to person for students (ages 11-16) facing social, emotional, behavioural, or attendance hurdles. Working alongside Heads of Year and the safeguarding team, you will help break down barriers to education, resolve conflicts, and create a calm, supportive environment where every young person feels valued and understood.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group pastoral interventions for students dealing with emotional dysregulation, anxiety, low confidence, or social difficulties.

  • Act as a first responder for classroom disruptions, using restorative conversations and de-escalation strategies to help pupils regulate and re-engage with lessons.

  • Monitor student attendance, punctuality, and behaviour data, proactively putting re-engagement plans into place.

  • Facilitate mediation and restorative justice sessions to resolve peer conflicts and friendship breakdowns.

  • Act as a reliable point of contact for parents and carers, building strong school-home partnerships.

  • Work in close alignment with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), SENCO, Heads of Year, and external multi-agency teams (Social Care, CASHER, youth services).

Candidate Profile & Requirements

  • Experience: Proven experience in a pastoral, behaviour support, youth work, family support, or learning mentor role within an education or youth-centred setting.

  • Communication & Boundaries: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build high-trust relationships with adolescents while maintaining firm, fair boundaries.

  • Conflict Resolution: Confident in behaviour management, restorative practice, and de-escalation techniques; Team Teach or similar positive handling training is advantageous.

  • Mindset: Resilient, compassionate, calm under pressure, and non-judgemental.

  • Safeguarding: An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one immediately) and a full, verifiable work history.

  • Location: Based in or commutable across Blackpool and the Fylde Coast (FY1-FY4, Lytham, St Annes, Thornton-Cleveleys, Poulton-le-Fylde).

Why Join This School?

  • Meaningful Daily Impact: Directly influence the wellbeing, attendance, and educational outcomes of Blackpool's young people.

  • Dedicated Team: Work as part of an established, well-resourced pastoral and inclusion team.

  • Work-Life Balance: Monday to Friday, standard school hours only-no evenings, shift work, or weekends, plus all school holidays off.

  • Weekly PAYE Pay: Reliable, transparent daily rates paid directly every Friday with no umbrella fees.
