Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a stable, long-term opportunity in a Blackpool secondary school?
We are recruiting a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Assistant to provide 1:1 and small group intervention for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students. This full-time role starts immediately and runs for the full academic year, supporting young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and ADHD.
The Role: What You'll Be Doing
As a Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant, you will collaborate with the school SENCo, classroom teachers, and pastoral team to make education accessible and engaging:
Provide targeted 1:1 support for students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Support KS3 and KS4 pupils in both mainstream classes and dedicated nurture/inclusion hubs.
Use positive behaviour management and proactive de-escalation strategies to maintain focus and reduce anxiety.
Differentiate learning resources to match pupils' individual learning styles and cognitive abilities.
Track individual pupil milestones and provide structured feedback to teachers and parents.
What We Are Looking For
Experience: Previous background working with children or young adults with SEND (schools, youth work, residential care, or SEN support environments).
Skills: Strong communication, empathy, resilience, and confidence in managing challenging behaviour or emotional distress.
Qualifications: GCSE Grade C/4 or Level 2 equivalent in English and Maths. A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or Team-Teach / MAPA de-escalation training is highly desirable.
Compliance: An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or readiness to complete a new check) and verified professional references covering the last two years.
