Job Description

Are you an adaptable, resilient Primary Teacher or an experienced Unqualified Teacher / Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking for a rewarding role where you can make a transformative impact?

A dedicated Alternative Provision (AP) in Blackpool is recruiting a Primary Teacher to deliver engaging, trauma-informed learning to pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. This position is offered on a temp-to-perm basis, offering long-term stability and a clear route to a permanent school contract.

The Setting & Role Overview

The provision supports primary-aged learners who are temporarily or permanently outside of mainstream schooling, often due to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, developmental trauma, ADHD, ASC, or neurodivergent profiles.

Class sizes are significantly smaller than mainstream schools typically between 6 and 8 pupils per class supported by dedicated, experienced SEN Teaching Assistants.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver creative, highly differentiated primary curriculum lessons focused on foundational Literacy, Numeracy, and life skills.

  • Create a calm, predictable, and supportive classroom environment that reduces sensory overload and builds pupil trust.

  • Use positive behaviour support and proactive de-escalation strategies to manage dysregulation with patience and empathy.

  • Work closely with pastoral teams, educational psychologists, and parents/carers to monitor emotional and academic progress.

  • Support pupils in building resilience, self-regulation, and confidence with the aim of successful reintegration into mainstream or specialist long-term settings.

Candidate Profile: Who Should Apply?

We welcome applications from both Qualified Teachers (QTS/QTLS/ECTs) and experienced Unqualified Teachers / Instructors / HLTAs:

  • Qualifications:

    • Option A: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS / QTLS) with primary teaching experience.

    • Option B: Unqualified Teacher, Instructor, or Cover Supervisor with substantial experience teaching or delivering interventions to primary-aged children with additional needs.

  • Experience: Proven track record working with children with SEMH, behavioural challenges, ASC, or those who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Backgrounds in APs, PRUs, or special schools are a strong advantage.

  • Approach: Resilient, empathetic, non-judgemental, and committed to looking beyond challenging behaviours to understand a child's underlying communication.

  • Vetting: Must hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one) and provide full working history and references covering the last 2 years.

What's in It for You?

  • Temp-to-Perm Pathway: A secure trial period working through the agency, leading directly into a permanent school contract.

  • Small Class Sizes: Freedom from 30+ pupil mainstream classes-work closely with 6-8 pupils and strong classroom support staff.

  • Professional Development: Access to free accredited CPD in Safeguarding, De-escalation (Team-Teach), Trauma-Informed Practice, and ADHD/Autism Support.

  • Dedicated Local Consultant: Consistent support from an experienced education consultant who knows Blackpool and Fylde Coast specialist provisions.
