Tradewind Recruitment are looking for a compassionate and resilient Mental Health Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEMH setting in Corby, supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has a strong understanding of mental health and is passionate about supporting young people who may experience anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, challenging behaviour or other barriers to learning.

We are particularly interested in candidates who understand that behaviour is often a form of communication and can provide young people with a calm, consistent and supportive presence.

The Role

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs

  • Support students with their emotional wellbeing and mental health

  • Help young people regulate their emotions and manage challenging situations

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students

  • Support students to re-engage with learning

  • Use appropriate behaviour management and de-escalation strategies

  • Encourage confidence, resilience and independence

  • Provide clear and consistent boundaries

  • Support students within lessons and during interventions

  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and other professionals

  • Help create a safe and supportive environment where students feel understood

Who Are We Looking For?

Previous experience supporting young people with mental health, SEMH, behaviour or additional needs would be highly beneficial.

Relevant backgrounds could include:

  • SEMH or SEN/SEND schools

  • Teaching Assistant or Learning Support

  • Mental health support

  • Behaviour support

  • Youth work

  • Pastoral or mentoring roles

  • Children's residential care

  • Social care

  • Psychology

  • Counselling

  • Healthcare or support work

Most importantly, you will need to be patient, resilient, empathetic and confident, with a genuine understanding of the challenges young people with SEMH needs may face.
