The Role
As a Pastoral Support Officer, you will work closely with students, teachers, parents/carers and the wider pastoral team to provide effective support and guidance.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing day-to-day pastoral support to students.
- Developing positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Supporting students with attendance, punctuality, behaviour and engagement.
- Identifying students who may require additional pastoral or emotional support.
- Working with families and external agencies where appropriate.
- Monitoring student welfare and raising safeguarding concerns through the appropriate channels.
- Supporting students to overcome barriers to learning and improve their progress.
- Assisting with behaviour interventions and individual support plans.
- Working collaboratively with Heads of Year, SLT, SENCO and teaching staff.
- Contributing to a positive, inclusive and respectful school environment.
The Ideal Candidate

- Have experience working with young people, ideally within a school or educational setting.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner.
- Be approachable, resilient and empathetic.
- Have high expectations of students and a commitment to improving outcomes.
- Be able to build strong relationships with students and families.
- Understand the importance of safeguarding and student wellbeing.
- Work effectively as part of a busy pastoral team.
Experience in a secondary school, youth work, education, behaviour support or family support setting would be highly desirable.
