Job Description

About the Role

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, or Youth Support Worker looking for a purposeful, rewarding role where you can make a lasting difference?

We are currently recruiting a resilient and proactive Teaching Assistant to work on a 2:1 basis supporting a secondary-aged pupil within a reputable Alternative Provision (AP) in Blackpool. This is a full-time, ongoing placement starting in November.

Working closely alongside another experienced staff member, you will provide tailored academic, emotional, and behavioural support to help this pupil re-engage with education, build self-confidence, and navigate daily challenges in a calm, structured setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively as part of a 2:1 support team to ensure a safe, focused, and positive learning environment.

  • Support the pupil across core learning sessions, practical activities, and vocational tasks.

  • De-escalate challenging behaviours using positive reinforcement, empathy, and proven de-escalation techniques.

  • Foster positive relationships and build rapport to help boost the student's emotional resilience and engagement.

  • Maintain clear communication with class teachers, SENDCos, and pastoral leadership.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience supporting young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health), complex behavioural needs, or within a PRU / Alternative Provision / specialist school.

  • Relevant backgrounds include: SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, Youth Worker, Residential Support Worker, or Ex-Military/Sports Coach.

  • Training in de-escalation (e.g., Team-Teach, Price, or MAPA) is highly advantageous, though not essential.

  • A calm, patient, and non-judgemental approach with strong boundaries and high emotional intelligence.

  • Reliable, adaptable, and a dedicated team player who thrives in challenging, dynamic environments.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive daily rates paid weekly via PAYE.

  • Full-time, consistent hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm).

  • A supportive, close-knit staff team dedicated to pupil progress and well-being.

  • Continuous access to accredited, free CPD and safeguarding training.

  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement.
