Job Description
Cover Supervisor Jobs - West Lancashire Secondary Schools
Tradewind Recruitment is recruiting Cover Supervisors for secondary schools across West Lancashire!
Tradewind Recruitment is seeking confident, reliable and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors for current and upcoming opportunities across secondary schools throughout West Lancashire.
We are keen to hear from experienced Cover Supervisors, Teaching Assistants and individuals with experience working with secondary-aged young people who are interested in gaining experience within local schools.
Our partner schools regularly require Cover Supervisors for daily supply, short-term absence cover and longer-term placements. Whether you are looking for flexible work across different schools or the opportunity to work consistently within one setting, we have opportunities to suit a range of preferences.
If you enjoy working with young people, can confidently manage a classroom and want to make a positive contribution to pupils' education, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.
What Does a Cover Supervisor Do?
As a Cover Supervisor, you will take responsibility for supervising classes when the usual teacher is absent.
Work will generally be prepared in advance by the class teacher or department. Your role is to ensure pupils remain focused, complete the work provided and maintain a positive learning environment.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Supervising classes across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Delivering pre-prepared work in the absence of the classroom teacher.
- Managing classroom behaviour effectively.
- Ensuring pupils remain engaged and on task.
- Providing basic support and guidance with the work provided.
- Following school behaviour and safeguarding policies.
- Reporting back to teaching staff on pupil engagement and behaviour.
- Building positive and professional relationships with pupils and colleagues.
- Providing cover across different curriculum subjects where required.
You do not need to be a qualified teacher to work as a Cover Supervisor.
Who Are We Looking For?
Previous school experience is highly desirable, and we would particularly like to hear from candidates who have worked as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Unqualified Teacher.
However, relevant experience working with young people outside a school environment can also provide an excellent foundation for Cover Supervisor work.
We would welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in:
- Sports coaching.
- Youth work and mentoring.
- Tutoring.
- Children's activity programmes.
- Teaching Assistant or learning support roles.
- Further education.
- Graduate roles involving children or young people.
- Other positions involving responsibility for groups of young people.
The key is being able to demonstrate genuine experience working with young people and the confidence to manage a secondary classroom.
What Makes a Strong Cover Supervisor?
Successful Cover Supervisors tend to be confident, resilient and adaptable. You will need to feel comfortable walking into different classrooms, communicating clear expectations and responding appropriately to challenging behaviour.
We are looking for candidates who can:
- Build rapport with secondary-aged pupils.
- Establish clear boundaries and expectations.
- Remain calm and professional.
- Communicate confidently with groups.
- Follow instructions and school policies.
- Manage behaviour effectively.
- Adapt quickly to different subjects and year groups.
- Work independently while contributing to the wider school team.
An Excellent Route into Teaching
Cover Supervisor work can be particularly valuable for graduates considering a career in teaching.
Rather than observing from the sidelines, you will gain practical experience managing classes, working with different year groups and developing your understanding of how secondary schools operate.
It is an excellent way to explore whether teaching is the right career for you while building valuable, hands-on experience in education.
