Job Description
Behaviour Mentor & Learning Support Assistant - Help Young People Thrive | Ipswich
Sunday Times Top 100 Employer
Tradewind Recruitment is looking for resilient, caring and enthusiastic Behaviour Mentors and Learning Support Assistants to work with pupils across Ipswich who need additional support to engage with education, manage their emotions and reach their potential.
These roles are ideal for people who enjoy building positive relationships with young people, understand the importance of patience and consistency, and want to make a genuine difference to pupils who may find mainstream education challenging.
Whether you have previous experience in education, SEND, youth work, care or behaviour support, or you're looking to bring your transferable skills into a school setting, we'd love to hear from you.
The Roles
Depending on the setting and your experience, you could be working as a Behaviour Mentor or Learning Support Assistant, supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), behavioural challenges and additional learning requirements.
Your responsibilities may include:
Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils who need additional emotional, behavioural or educational support.
Helping young people develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive coping strategies.
Supporting pupils to manage challenging situations and make positive choices.
Providing one-to-one and small-group support to encourage engagement with learning.
Helping teachers deliver engaging lessons and adapting support to meet individual needs.
Promoting positive behaviour, clear boundaries and consistency throughout the school day.
Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, independence and stronger social skills.
Working closely with teachers and other professionals to provide a supportive and structured learning environment.
What We're Looking For
A patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
Confidence in building relationships with young people who may display challenging behaviour or struggle to engage in education.
The ability to remain calm and consistent in difficult situations.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
A genuine interest in helping young people overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
Previous experience in a school, SEMH provision, SEND, youth work, residential care, coaching or a similar environment is beneficial, but transferable experience will also be considered.
Most importantly, we're looking for people who understand that behaviour can be a form of communication and who are willing to take the time to understand each young person's individual needs.
