The Role

As a Secondary School Biology Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective Biology lessons across the secondary curriculum, inspiring students to develop their scientific knowledge and achieve their academic potential.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Planning and delivering engaging Biology lessons in line with the national curriculum.

• Teaching and supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities for Key Stage 5 where appropriate.

• Maintaining high standards of classroom management and student behaviour.

• Assessing, monitoring and recording student progress.

• Adapting teaching strategies to meet the needs of learners with varying abilities.

• Creating a positive, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.

• Working collaboratively with colleagues and contributing to the wider school community where required.

What We Are Looking For

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must have:

• A relevant degree in Biology or a closely related subject.

• A recognised teaching qualification, such as QTS, or equivalent overseas teaching qualification.

• Previous experience teaching Biology or Science within a secondary school setting.

• Strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver engaging lessons.

• Effective classroom management and communication skills.

• A genuine passion for education and supporting student achievement.

• A professional, adaptable and reliable approach to teaching.

Pay and Progression

Daily Supply: £150 - £170 per day

Our daily supply rates range from £150 to £170, depending on your qualifications, teaching experience, demonstrated performance and the level of responsibility undertaken.

We recognise and reward teachers who demonstrate commitment, consistency and professional development.

Candidates joining at the lower end of the pay range will have opportunities to work towards the higher rate by:

• Demonstrating consistent, high-quality teaching and effective classroom management.

• Building further experience across different year groups and ability levels.

• Receiving positive feedback from schools and demonstrating strong pupil engagement.

• Taking on additional responsibilities, such as supporting departmental activities, contributing to curriculum planning or assisting with assessment and pupil progress.

• Demonstrating increased independence, flexibility and the ability to take on more demanding teaching assignments.

Progression towards £170 per day will be reviewed against experience, performance, responsibilities and the requirements of individual assignments. The higher rate is not automatic and will be agreed in advance with Tradewind Recruitment.

Long-Term Teaching Opportunities: Main Teacher Pay Scale

For candidates undertaking a long-term teaching placement, remuneration will be aligned with the school's applicable Main Teacher Pay Scale (MPS), with the appropriate salary determined by relevant qualifications, experience and the terms of the placement.

This provides an excellent opportunity for supply teachers to secure more consistent teaching work while being remunerated in line with the applicable teacher pay arrangements.
