About the Opportunity

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a knowledgeable, enthusiastic and dedicated Secondary School Chemistry Teacher to work in a welcoming secondary school in Lewisham.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Chemistry specialist with previous teaching experience who is looking for flexible supply work, the opportunity to build their teaching experience, or a potential route into a longer-term teaching position.

The successful candidate will have a strong subject knowledge, a passion for Science education and the ability to engage, motivate and inspire students across Key Stages 3 and 4. The ability to deliver engaging Chemistry lessons, maintain effective classroom management and support positive student outcomes is essential.

The Role and Responsibilities

As a Chemistry Teacher, your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging Chemistry lessons in line with the national curriculum.

  • Teaching and supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4.

  • Making complex scientific concepts accessible and engaging for students of different abilities.

  • Maintaining a positive, inclusive and well-managed classroom environment.

  • Assessing student progress and providing constructive feedback.

  • Preparing and delivering practical experiments in accordance with school health and safety procedures.

  • Supporting students in developing their scientific knowledge, confidence and practical skills.

  • Working collaboratively with Science department colleagues and wider school staff.

  • Upholding the school's safeguarding, behaviour and professional standards.

Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must have:

  • A relevant degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific subject.

  • A recognised teaching qualification, such as PGCE with QTS, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Previous experience teaching Chemistry or Science within a secondary school setting.

  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver engaging lessons.

  • Effective classroom management and communication skills.

  • A commitment to safeguarding, student welfare and inclusive education.

  • The right to work in the UK and the ability to meet the necessary safeguarding and pre-employment checks.

Pay and Progression Opportunities

Daily Supply: £150 - £170 per day

We offer a competitive daily supply rate, with pay determined by relevant qualifications, previous teaching experience, responsibilities and the requirements of the placement.

Candidates joining at the lower end of the pay range will have opportunities to demonstrate their experience, skills and value within the school and potentially progress towards the higher daily rate.

Progression towards £170 per day may be considered where candidates demonstrate:

  • More extensive and relevant secondary teaching experience.

  • Strong classroom management and consistently effective lesson delivery.

  • A proven ability to raise student engagement and support academic progress.

  • Increased responsibilities within the department or wider school.

  • Additional contributions, such as supporting curriculum development, mentoring colleagues, taking on departmental responsibilities or leading aspects of teaching and learning.

  • Consistently positive feedback from schools and strong performance across placements.

Any change in daily rate will be subject to experience, the responsibilities undertaken, placement requirements and agreement with Tradewind Recruitment. Progression is not automatic and will be assessed fairly against the role and applicable pay arrangements.

Long-Term Teaching Opportunities: Main Teacher Pay Scale

For candidates undertaking a qualifying long-term teaching vacancy, remuneration will be paid in line with the applicable Main Teacher Pay Scale (MPS), taking account of relevant experience and the terms of the placement.

This provides an excellent opportunity for teachers seeking greater consistency, longer-term career development and the chance to become an established member of a school's Science department.
