Founded in the late 12th century and with strong maritime heritage, Hull has acted as a market town, a military port, a key trading hub, a fishing centre, and an industrial powerhouse throughout its history.

The Museum Quarter includes the Hull and East Riding Museum of Archaeology, the Streetlife Museum of Transport and the Arctic Corsair, providing a unique experience of deep-sea fishing.

The city’s maritime connections mean it is also home to The Deep, one of the world’s most spectacular aquariums. The hustle and bustle of Leeds is around an hour away by train, while the picturesque backdrop of York is also within easy reach.

A number of bars and cafes are dotted around the city and there are restaurants offering a wide range of cuisines, from fine dining to locally sourced fish and chips.

The Yorkshire Brewing Company is found in the centre of Hull and produces a wide selection of real ales and beers – most of which are served in pubs across the city.

Three main shopping centres will cater to all your retail needs. Meanwhile for a spot of culture, the city hosts the annual Humber Mouth literature festival, as well as the Hull Jazz Festival, which takes places in the marina every year.

Hull was notably crowned the UK’s City of Culture 2017.

There are more than 100 schools in the region, of which Hull City Council is responsible for the majority. You’ll find a range of public and private schools, including independents, academies and special schools.
