This academic year has been characterised by a shift in the conversation taking place across schools. While recruitment remains a challenge for many schools, leaders are increasingly focused on a different question: how do we create the conditions that encourage great educators to stay?
Through our work with schools and trusts across the country, we've seen growing recognition that workforce stability cannot be achieved through recruitment alone. Wellbeing, career development, and effective support for increasingly complex pupil needs all play a role in retention. The schools making the greatest progress are often those taking a long-term view of their workforce, investing in their people as deliberately as they invest in school improvement.
At the same time, the sector continues to prepare for significant change. The anticipated SEND reform consultation is likely to generate important discussion about how support is delivered, how needs are identified, and how schools are equipped to meet rising demand. Whatever shape the reform ultimately takes, preparedness will be key. Schools that are already strengthening their expertise, planning their staffing strategies and considering how they can best support pupils with additional needs will be well placed to respond to future developments.
These themes are reflected throughout our work this term. Our latest research into educator retention highlights the factors educators and school leaders believe have the greatest influence on keeping talented professionals in the classroom. We've also continued to invest in quality and safety through enhanced training, ensuring our candidates are equipped to meet evolving expectations across the education sector.
As another academic year comes to a close, I would like to thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are privileged to work with schools and trusts that remain committed to delivering exceptional outcomes despite a constantly evolving landscape. We look forward to continuing to support you in the coming year and helping you prepare for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
