Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant for Child with Challenging Behaviour

Location: Mainstream Primary School

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Reception aged child who displays challenging behaviour in group settings. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children with challenging behaviour and possess strong behaviour management skills. The role will involve providing individual support to the child, helping them to engage positively with learning and manage their behaviour effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to the Reception aged child with challenging behaviour.
  • Implement strategies to support the child's emotional and behavioural needs, ensuring they can fully access the curriculum and participate in classroom activities.
  • Foster a supportive and nurturing relationship with the child, building trust and rapport to facilitate their learning and development.
  • Work closely with other members of staff to develop and implement behaviour management plans tailored to the child's specific needs.
  • Monitor and track the child's progress, providing regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).
  • Collaborate with external professionals, such as educational psychologists or behavioural therapists, to access additional support and resources for the child as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience working with children with challenging behaviour is essential.
  • Strong behaviour management skills, with the ability to effectively de-escalate challenging situations and implement positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience to support the child through their challenges and setbacks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or childcare are desirable but not essential.
  • Willingness to undergo additional training and professional development related to supporting children with challenging behaviour.

Additional Information:

  • This is a full-time position based in a mainstream primary school.
  • The successful candidate will work closely with the SENCO and other members of staff to provide tailored support to the child.
  • All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check.
