About Us: This school is a caring and inclusive primary school located in South Liverpool. We are dedicated to providing a supportive learning environment where every child can achieve their full potential. We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Job Description: As a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) working on a 1:1 basis with an SEN pupil, you will have a unique opportunity to make a positive difference in the life of a child. You will provide tailored support and encouragement to help the pupil overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and reach their academic and personal goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the SENCo and class teacher to understand the individual needs and requirements of the pupil you will be supporting.
  • Provide 1:1 support to the pupil with SEN, implementing personalised learning strategies and interventions to facilitate their progress and engagement in learning.
  • Adapt and differentiate learning materials and activities to meet the specific learning styles and abilities of the pupil.
  • Foster a positive and supportive relationship with the pupil, promoting their independence, self-esteem, and emotional well-being.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans, monitoring progress and providing feedback to the SENCo and class teacher.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external professionals (e.g., speech and language therapists, educational psychologists) to ensure a coordinated approach to support and inclusion.
  • Maintain accurate records of the pupil's progress, achievements, and any concerns, in accordance with school policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant, preferably in a SEN setting.
  • Understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and experience supporting children with a range of needs, including Autism, ADHD, and specific learning difficulties.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to working with children with SEN, with the ability to build positive relationships and establish trust.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with colleagues, parents/guardians, and external professionals.
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently, as well as collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in supporting children with SEN would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to undertake a new one.
