School Caretaker

Hourly Rate: £14 - £16 / hour

Sanza Teaching Agency are working exclusively with a large primary school in Hackney to secure a Caretaker. The successful candidate must have experience within a similar role in a school setting. The role is full time and pays £14-£16 per hour (£20,000- £24,000).

The purpose of the role:

• To ensure the general security of the school premises and grounds.
• To ensure the school is a safe and secure environment.
• To carry out first line/minor repairs and maintenance.
• To undertake porterage duties
• Undertake lettings duties.

Your duties will include responsibility of the following:

Security/Access

1. To be a main key holder to enable the routine and non-routine opening and closing of school buildings and grounds, including carrying out security procedures during normal working hours.
2. Providing safe and adequate access to the school and classrooms during inclement weather, e.g. flooding, snow, etc. To clear and salt paths when necessary.
3. Preventing trespass and unauthorised parking on the school premises.

Cleaning

1. To clean areas requested when the need arises during the day.
2. To maintain high standards of hygiene and ensure that spilt body fluids are cleaned up in a safe and hygienic manner as necessary.

General Maintenance

1. Carrying out first line/minor repairs and maintenance which are not beyond the scope of a competent DIY person.
2. Directing contractors to the sites of repair and maintenance work and monitoring the work of contractors under instructions from the SBM/Site Manager.
3. Carrying out specified procedures in the event of fire, flood, breaking and entering, accident or major damage.
4. Checking light bulbs, fluorescent tubes etc. are working and replace as necessary.
5. Ensuring that all caretaking equipment is in a safe and efficient working condition.
6. Reporting repairs or maintenance work required at the school which is beyond the competence of the caretaking staff, making sure the SBM/Site Manager are informed.
7. To ensure that the day-to-day running and maintenance of the premises avoids wastage and is efficient.

Porterage

1. Ordering and taking delivery of stores, materials and other goods and storing them.
2. Moving furniture, equipment and any items delivered to the school etc around school premises as requested
3. Setting out and clearing away of lunchtime chairs and tables as appropriate.
4. Setting up chairs / staging as required for assemblies and whole school events
