SEMH Teaching Assistant

Tradewind are recruiting! Are you a Teaching Assistant or a Behaviour Mentor who is looking for a new role in Salford/Manchester?

I am currently recruiting for a confident Behaviour Mentor or Teaching Assistant to work within the SEN department of a secondary school in the Salford area for a full-time role beginning immediately.

The role is offered initially on a temporary basis paying up to £85 per day and may become a permanent appointment for the right candidate.

The Role

Behaviour Mentors will help with supporting teaching and learning in the SEN support unit of a secondary school specialising in supporting children who may struggle with social and emotional mental health.

Five days a week - 8.10am to 3.50pm

The role will be based in the school's unit for students with EHCPs

Students will often need additional support to access the curriculum, and this requires a strong amount of patience and understanding.

The Unit is to provide a safe learning environment where students can learn with support and develop independent study skills.

The TA will be

  • Supporting students on a 1 to1 basis or in small groups.
  • Supporting young people with literacy and numeracy and general subject knowledge
  • Supporting young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • Supporting young people with mental health needs and anxiety
  • Work collaboratively with other member of the SEN team, senior leaders, heads of departments, parents and carers, social workers and other members of the child's multidisciplinary team.

To join us and be successful in this Behaviour Mentor role, you will need to:

  • Have a minimum of six weeks' experience of working with children aged 11 to 16 supported by references OR be a recent graduate with an interest in getting into teaching.
  • This position is subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional references checks
  • Provide a CV with 10 years of employment/education history included and any employment breaks must be explained
  • Have the legal right to work in the UK
  • Bachelor's degree or teaching assistant qualifications
  • We welcome applications from candidates with experience of youth work, alternative provisions or social services or other experience of supporting teenagers with mental Health needs
