About the role:

• Speech & Language Teaching Assistant at a right through special school.
• Start date ASAP.
• Full time and long term with the potential to turn in to a permanent contract.
• Pay up to £75 per day.
• Supporting a KS3 pupil with Speech & Language Communication difficulties on a 1:1 basis.
• Observe pupil's behaviour & communication cues in order to understand their needs and provide tailored support.
• Work with the individual and other key people to implement and adapt a holistic learning and support plan.
• Support individual in overcoming barriers when communicating and help develop methods for them to use to communicate more effectively with others.
• Pupil uses PECS and MAKATON as a form of communication.
• Provide encouragement, motivational and emotional support.
• You must have previous experience supporting young people with Speech & Language needs before.

• Special school for young people with Profound (PMLD) & Complex Needs at both primary & secondary age.
• Rated GOOD by Ofsted. Warm and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and others. They have a strong sense of positive values that are promoted throughout the school and lessons.
• The school supports staff with training opportunities and pupils and parents speak highly of the school too.
• It is located centrally in Manchester on major bus routes and only 15 mins from a train station.

About the pupils:

• Pupils are aged 5-16 and all have an EHCP for Special Needs including Profound (PMLD) & Complex Needs.
• Pupils are both verbal or non-verbal so some will need support with Speech & Language and use PECS or Makaton to communicate.
• Staff promote independence, enthusiasm for learning, confidence and courage in their pupils and this is the basis on which pupils are able to achieve.
• Some pupils have Sensory Needs so an appreciation and empathy towards is needed.
• Strong behaviour management skills needs for any instances of challenging behaviour.
