DT Technician - Northampton
Start Date: September 2025 | Full-Time | Long-Term Role
Are you a hands-on, organised individual with a background in Design & Technology, engineering, or workshop support? Do you enjoy working in a practical environment and supporting young people's learning?
Tradewind Recruitment is currently working with secondary schools across Northampton who are looking to appoint DT Technicians from September 2025. These are full-time, long-term roles, ideal for someone with experience in a workshop or technical support setting, particularly within schools or colleges.
As a DT Technician, you'll play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the DT department, helping prepare materials and equipment, maintaining machinery, and assisting both staff and students during lessons.
Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing materials, tools, and equipment for practical DT lessons (e.g. woodwork, metalwork, electronics, CAD/CAM)
Ensuring machinery and tools are properly maintained and meet health & safety standards
Supporting teachers during practical lessons and helping students use tools safely and effectively
Managing stock, ordering supplies, and maintaining a tidy and well-organised workshop
Following school policies for health, safety, and safeguarding at all times
You'll be a great fit if you:
Have previous experience in a workshop, engineering, or DT environment (school-based experience is a plus)
Are confident using tools and machinery such as saws, drills, and 3D printers (training can be provided if needed)
Understand the importance of safety and are happy to take responsibility for maintaining a safe workspace
Are organised, reliable, and enjoy supporting young learners in a creative, practical subject
Have good communication skills and can work well as part of a team
