We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic 1:1 Outdoor Education Teacher / Tutor to join a supportive Secondary School in Blackpool, starting September 2025.

This is an exciting full-time, temporary 1-year contract designed to provide intensive, individualised support to a specific student who will benefit immensely from a tailored curriculum with a strong emphasis on outdoor learning. We welcome applications from both qualified teachers and individuals with substantial outdoor education experience and a genuine passion for working with young people in a 1:1 setting.

The Role:

As the 1:1 Outdoor Education Teacher / Tutor, you will be primarily responsible for:

  • Designing and delivering highly individualised academic and outdoor education sessions to one specific student, adapting the curriculum to their unique learning style and needs.

  • Planning and safely leading engaging outdoor activities (e.g., local nature walks, environmental studies, bushcraft, team-building challenges, problem-solving in outdoor settings), linking them to core subject areas where appropriate.

  • Providing consistent and nurturing one-to-one tuition across a range of subjects, focusing on re-engagement and building confidence.

  • Creating a positive, safe, and stimulating learning environment that extends beyond the traditional classroom.

  • Monitoring and documenting student progress across all areas of development, providing regular feedback.

  • Collaborating closely with the school's SENDCO, pastoral team, and parents/carers to ensure a cohesive and supportive educational plan.

  • Ensuring all activities adhere to school policies and health and safety regulations, particularly for outdoor sessions.

  • Acting as a mentor and positive role model for the student.

What We Are Looking For:

Essential (Qualified or Unqualified):

  • A genuine passion for working intensively with individual students and making a significant impact.

  • Strong experience in planning and leading outdoor activities with young people (e.g., youth work, adventure sports, uniformed organisations, coaching, environmental education).

  • Excellent communication, patience, and empathy, with a proven ability to build strong rapport with young people.

  • Adaptability, resourcefulness, and a creative approach to teaching and problem-solving.

  • A robust commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check (if not already held).

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or other recognised teaching qualification.

  • Relevant outdoor education qualifications (e.g., NGB awards, First Aid certifications relevant to outdoor environments).

  • Experience in 1:1 tuition or working with students who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or social-emotional needs.

  • Familiarity with the UK Secondary National Curriculum.
