1:1 Outdoor Education Teacher - Burnley Alternative Provision 🌿

Are you an inspirational and adaptable educator with a passion for the outdoors? We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Outdoor Education Teacher to join our team in Burnley. This unique role, starting in October 2025, does not require Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), making it an excellent opportunity for experienced outdoor professionals or youth workers with a teaching flair. You will work one-on-one with students who may have become disengaged from mainstream education, using the natural environment as your classroom.


The Role & Responsibilities 🎯

As a 1:1 Outdoor Education Teacher, you will:

  • Tailored Learning: Develop and deliver highly personalised outdoor lessons and activities that meet the individual needs of one student at a time.

  • Experiential Curriculum: Use the local environment (parks, woodland, trails) to teach a range of subjects, focusing on practical skills, bushcraft, survival, and team-building.

  • Therapeutic Support: Create a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment that helps students build resilience, self-esteem, and a positive relationship with learning.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the school's pastoral and leadership teams to ensure a holistic approach to the student's well-being and progress.

  • Safeguarding: Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring the safety of the student at all times.


Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience: Proven experience in outdoor education, youth work, or a similar role, ideally with young people who have faced challenges in mainstream education.

  • Skills: Knowledge and practical skills in areas such as bushcraft, nature-based activities, and adventure sports.

  • Personal Attributes: Exceptional patience, resilience, and a calm, empathetic approach. You must be an excellent communicator and a strong role model.

  • Commitment to Safety: Relevant first aid qualifications and a strong understanding of risk management in an outdoor setting are essential.

  • Flexibility: The ability to be adaptable and resourceful, comfortable working in all weather conditions.
