1:1 Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs and making a real difference in their lives? Our SEN school is looking for a 1:1 Teaching Assistant in Blackburn to provide dedicated, personalised support to a student with complex needs.

What you will do:

  • Work closely with the class teacher to implement and adapt Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to suit the student's learning style and needs.

  • Provide one-to-one support in lessons, helping the student engage with learning and achieve their personal targets.

  • Support the student with social, emotional, and behavioural development, helping them build confidence, independence, and resilience.

  • Encourage and facilitate communication, both verbal and non-verbal, depending on the child's abilities.

  • Monitor and record progress, reporting observations to teachers and contributing to planning meetings.

  • Assist with personal care and wellbeing, as required, in line with safeguarding and school policies.

  • Promote inclusion, helping the student access the wider school environment and participate in group activities wherever possible.

Who we're looking for:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN), such as autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, or physical disabilities.

  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach, able to respond to changing needs and behaviours.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students, teachers, and families.

  • Commitment to safeguarding, health, and wellbeing of children at all times.

  • Enthusiasm for contributing to a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture.
