Science Lab Technician - Blackburn Private School (Immediate Start)

Are you a highly organised and detail-oriented professional with a passion for science? We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Science Lab Technician to join our thriving Science Department in Blackburn. This full-time role is essential for ensuring our labs are safe, well-equipped, and ready for all practical lessons and experiments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lab Preparation & Support: Prepare and assemble all necessary equipment, materials, and chemical solutions for class practicals, demonstrations, and examinations.

  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all departmental and school health and safety procedures are followed. You will assist in risk assessments, advise staff on safety issues, and manage the safe storage and disposal of chemicals and other hazardous materials.

  • Inventory & Stock Management: Maintain accurate inventories, monitor stock levels, and handle all ordering and requisitions to ensure the department is always well-supplied.

  • Maintenance & Upkeep: Undertake minor repairs and modifications to apparatus. You will be responsible for the general cleanliness and maintenance of laboratories and preparation rooms.

  • General Support: Assist with a wide range of departmental tasks, including providing support for out-of-school activities and practical examinations.


What We're Looking For

  • Essential Experience: Proven experience working as a Science Lab Technician or in a similar laboratory-based role.

  • A strong understanding of laboratory practices and procedures.

  • An excellent grasp of health and safety protocols (COSHH regulations, etc.).

  • Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with both teaching staff and students.

  • A proactive and resourceful mindset.
