Are you an experienced youth worker or mentor with a passion for helping young people? We're hiring an unqualified teacher for a 2:1 alternative provision in Burnley. This full-time role starts in late September 2025. Outdoor teaching experience is a bonus!

Unqualified Teacher - 2:1 Alternative Provision (Burnley, Lancashire)

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people who have become disengaged from mainstream education? We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Unqualified Teacher to join our alternative provision in Burnley. This unique, full-time role involves working with students on a 2:1 basis, providing them with the focused support they need to re-engage with learning and achieve their potential.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced professional with a background in youth work, mentoring, or social care. Your ability to build strong, trusting relationships and manage challenging behaviours is more important than a formal teaching qualification. We are also looking for someone who is comfortable with outdoor teaching, as we believe in the power of nature to foster positive change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 2:1 teaching support to students with a range of social, emotional, and mental health needs.

  • Plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons tailored to each student's interests and learning style.

  • Use a trauma-informed approach to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours.

  • Build strong, supportive relationships with students, acting as a mentor and positive role model.

  • Where appropriate, utilise our local outdoor spaces as a setting for lessons.

  • Work collaboratively with the wider team to implement EHCPs and support student progress.

What We're Looking For

  • Essential Experience: Proven experience working with young people, particularly those with complex needs or challenging behaviors.

  • A natural ability to build rapport and trust.

  • Patience, resilience, and a compassionate nature.

  • A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.

  • Experience in outdoor education or a desire to teach outdoors is highly desirable.
