Student Welfare Officer - Wellingborough

About the Role

We are seeking committed Student Welfare Officers to join SEND schools in and around Wellingborough. The successful candidates will play pivotal roles in promoting student wellbeing, safeguarding mental health, improving attendance, engaging families, and ensuring that students are supported emotionally and socially to achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and support student attendance; intervene early to address attendance issues.
  • Work with students exhibiting emotional, behavioural or social difficulties; provide one‑to‑one and small group support.
  • Coordinate with pastoral teams, SEN staff, external agencies (e.g. CAMHS, Social Care).
  • Maintain and develop student welfare records; ensure confidentiality.
  • Provide guidance and support to families, liaising with parents/guardians.
  • Run programs / workshops on wellbeing, resilience, anti‑bullying, healthy relationships.
  • Support school policies around safeguarding, safeguarding training, and child protection.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with children / young people in a welfare, pastoral or psychology setting.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, child protection legislation and processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills, able to manage caseloads.
  • Relevant qualification in welfare, youth work, counselling or similar would be advantageous.
