Apprentice Teaching Assistant

Location: Towcester, Northamptonshire
Contract Type: Apprenticeship / Fixed Term with potential to grow into more senior role

About the Role

Are you interested in starting a career in education? Tradewind Recruitment has an apprenticeship opportunity for a Non‑Qualified Teaching Assistant at our AP secondary school in Towcester. You will work alongside experienced staff supporting Key Stage 3 & 4 pupils in small, homely classes, gaining on‑the‑job experience while completing qualifications, and developing skills to progress to higher levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in classroom and small group settings; help manage behaviour and engagement.

  • Assist with preparing materials, helping students with tasks, adapting resources under direction.

  • Support emotional and pastoral needs of students; encourage learning and confidence.

  • Help maintain a safe and inclusive environment; supervise during transitions, break times.

  • Participate in apprenticeship training, assignments, and workshops.

Person Specification

  • Genuine interest in education; willingness to learn and develop.

  • Patience, good communication and relational skills.

  • Ability to work under direction; reliable, punctual and flexible.

  • Some previous experience (e.g. tutoring, mentoring, youth work, volunteering) is helpful but not essential.
