Behaviour Mentor - North Wiltshire
At Tradewind Recruitment, we're not just about finding jobs - we're about finding purpose. We work with incredible people who dedicate their time and energy to supporting young people with additional needs, helping them feel seen, understood, and capable of success. When you work with us, you're joining a team that truly cares about you, your wellbeing, and the difference you make every day.
Are you a resilient, empathetic and highly effective professional with a passion for transforming the lives of young people? We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to work with pastoral and inclusion teams in a variety of SEN & SEMH schools and alternative learning provisions (ALPs) across North Wiltshire.
These vital, hands-on Behaviour Mentor roles involve managing and mitigating challenging behaviour, particularly for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them re-engage with education and achieve their personal goals.
The Role:
You will serve as a consistent, positive role model, providing crucial support both in and out of the classroom to ensure students remain safe, regulated and focused on their learning.
- De-escalation & Intervention: Provide immediate and expert intervention to manage disruptive behaviour within the classroom, using proven de-escalation techniques and positive handling strategies.
- 1:1 Mentoring: Deliver targeted individual and small-group mentoring sessions focused on improving emotional literacy, self-regulation, resilience and social skills.
- Strategy Implementation: Confidently and calmly implement Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs) and risk assessments, working with teachers to adapt strategies to meet specific student needs.
- Pastoral Collaboration: Work closely with SENDCOs, Heads of Years and external professionals to ensure a coherent and therapeutic approach to student well-being.
- Data & Reporting: Accurately record and report on incidents, interventions and student progress to track impact and inform future support.
Essential Requirements & Skills
We are looking for a highly resilient individual who can thrive in a demanding yet rewarding environment:
- Experience: Significant, demonstrable experience in a Behaviour Support role (e.g., Youth Work, PRU/Alternative Provision, or Mainstream Secondary Inclusion) working with young people who exhibit challenging behaviour.
- Expertise: Deep, practical knowledge of effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies. Training such as Team Teach or Positive Handling is highly desirable.
- Resilience: Exceptional personal resilience, a calm and authoritative presence, and a genuine, non-judgemental approach toward pupils with complex needs.
- Commitment: A robust commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Compliance: Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS check registered to the Update Service.
