Tradewind Recruitment is proud to be supporting a specialist SEND College in their search for a dedicated and motivated Job Coach to join their Supported Employment and Project SEARCH programmes.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in helping young people with additional needs prepare for, access, and sustain meaningful employment. Working collaboratively across college sites, community placements, and employer settings, you'll help students develop essential employability skills and confidence to thrive in the workplace.


Purpose of the Post

  • To support students and graduates across the Preparation for Work and Life and Project SEARCH programmes.

  • To help young people apply for jobs, attend interviews, and transition successfully into employment or supported employment.

  • To work both 1:1 and with small groups to develop confidence, independence, and job-readiness.

  • To foster and maintain strong, mutually beneficial relationships with employers.

  • To promote the client school's mission of inclusive education and employment opportunities for all learners.


Key Responsibilities

Student and Graduate Support

  • Provide person-centred support for students on work placements, enabling independence and self-confidence.

  • Support students and graduates in applying for jobs, preparing for interviews, and transitioning into the workplace.

  • Plan and deliver sessions to develop employability and life skills.

  • Contribute to lesson planning, target setting, and tracking of individual and group progress.

  • Maintain records of students' progress and achievements as agreed with teachers and curriculum leads.

  • Identify and arrange attendance at events and opportunities that enhance employability.

  • Provide care and support for students' physical welfare, ensuring safety and wellbeing at all times.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with graduates, their families, and employers.

Employer Engagement and Placement Support

  • Develop and sustain professional, long-term relationships with employers.

  • Act as the day-to-day point of contact for employers and placement providers.

  • Conduct daily risk assessments for work placements and recommend reasonable adjustments as needed.

  • Support employers in creating inclusive and supportive workplace environments.

Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Attend and contribute to review meetings involving the Assistant Principal, employers, and students.

  • Share good practice and support less experienced colleagues and trainees.

  • Undertake training to enhance job coaching skills and work towards relevant qualifications (e.g. NVQ).

  • Support the maintenance of a positive, structured learning environment both on-site and in the community.

  • Complete all required documentation and administrative tasks promptly and accurately.


Person Specification

Essential Skills and Qualities

  • Strong English and Maths skills.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Ability to support students across a variety of learning and workplace settings.

  • Competence in conducting detailed risk assessments and ensuring student safety.

  • Capacity to build strong relationships with staff, employers, students, and families.

  • Ability to maintain accurate written records and contribute to tracking progress.

  • Proficiency with IT systems (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, email, and cloud-based servers).

  • Flexibility to occasionally work evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Knowledge and Understanding

  • Awareness of the needs of students with autism and related learning disabilities.

  • Understanding of how young people learn and the factors influencing their development.

  • Respectful and person-centred approach to working with young people and their families.

  • Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, and inclusive education principles.

  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and the values of inclusive practice.

Desirable Experience and Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting young people with SEND in education, training, or employment.

  • Willingness to undertake further training or achieve an NVQ or equivalent qualification in job coaching or supported employment.
